Mercy's Substance Abuse Specialist
Shawn Stepp, LMHC, CADC
Shawn Stepp is the director of the Sedlacek Treatment Unit at Mercy Medical Center. Shawn is a licensed mental health counselor, a certified alcohol and drug counselor and is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensetization Reprocessing). She has a master's degree in mental health counseling from Emporia State University in Kansas. Shawn has worked in the field of chemical dependency since 1991. She directed large residential and outpatient programs in Oklahoma before coming to Mercy in 2003.
Shawn's goals for Sedlacek are to continue to reach as many suffering alcoholics and addicts and help them regain the tools they need to live clean and sober lives. Her philosophy of treatment recognizes addiction as a disease much like diabetes or cancer. While there is no cure, it can be managed. A person suffering from addiction is, first and foremost, a human being who will be treated as such, with dignity and respect. Recovery can be a wonderful journey and Shawn is committed to Sedlacek and the principles on which it was founded over 30 years ago.
