Q: What precautions should be taken for breast cancer radiation treatments for someone with vasculitis?
Karen - Independence, IA

A: Connective tissue disorders (S.L.E., scleroderma, etc.) with significant vasculitis may be a contraindication for radiation therapy. However, the use of radiation is not contraindicated with all connective tissue disorders. A referral to a radiation oncologist is strongly advised for discussion and evaluation.
